50% Indians still prefer arranged marriages
We may have conquered the moon, but when it comes to choosing a life partner, most of us trust none other than our parents to help us make the right decision.

Despite the increasing trend of love marriages in India, more than half the youngsters still depend on their parents to find their partner, according to a survey.

When asked about the ideal way to find a partner, a majority of 50.1 per cent respondents said they prefer relying on parents, a survey by matrimonial portal Shaadi.com said.

More than 31 per cent youngsters said they prefer searching online to find a partner of their choice.

On the other hand, 12 per cent said they would like to meet new people through common friends, while another 6 per cent mentioned work place as a way to meet new people.

Select Shaadi,had conducted the survey recently to understand how peoples habits have evolved over generations.

It surveyed over 3,600 single youngsters in various cities in the age group ranging from 24 years to 35 years.

Asked about what qualities they look for in their life partners, about 37 per cent singles said they want someone who is like-minded. Another 30 per cent chose educational qualification.

More than 21 per cent single Indian women said their partners occupation is important, where as 11 per cent said being presentable is more important.

"The survey reassures our belief in marrying peoples matchmaking needs with technology to deliver happiness across generations. The survey is part of the constant research that Shaadi.com conducts in its attempt to gauge the preferences of single Indians," Premanshu Singh, associate vice-president of Shaadi.com, said.
