The thyroid hormones are made up of lodine and it thus plays a crucial role in thyroid functioning. Lodine deficiency leads to Thyroid disorders. Lodine is obtained from the dietary intake, that in turn, depends on the iodine content in the soil and water in a particular locality. Studies of a locality may indicate the need of supplementation of Iodine in salt and bread. In India, 30-40% of the area is known to be iodine deficient.
